A workshop "Column Selection for Size Exclusion Separations" was sponsored by PSS USA, at the 238 American Chemical Society Meeting at Washington, DC, allowing the participants to discuss practical problems, current open questions and requirements for GPC/SEC columns with Dr. Günter Reinhold who heads the PSS column department. Dr. Reinhold is the inventor of the first material available for the GPC/SEC analysis in medium polar solvents: the PSS GRAM.
Dr. Reinhold lead the seminar of Tuesday August 18, 2009, through three lectures. He emphasized that high resolution columns are the heart of a GPC/SEC system, and when the column set or the method are wrong, even the most sophisticated and expensive detectors will yield useless or incomprehensive information.
The workshop goal was to provide a basic understanding of
- Column production
- Column Selection
- Method development,
- How to increase column life, long term stability and reproducibility.
PSS GmbH will offer the "Column Selection for Size Exclusion Separations" seminar as a part of the GPC/SEC Columns User Symposium in Mainz, Germany on November 3rd 2009.
Free-of-charge participation is open to all, whether or not they use PSS Columns, given that this seminar deals with general principles applicable to all columns.
